The mountainous environs of Tibet don't witness growth of many vegetables and the usual diet here consists of meat, barley and dairy products. Tsampa and salted butter tea are highly essential.

Other popular food includes dried beef, mutton stripe and yoghurt. Beef and mutton are highly in favor as the winter season commences. Momo (Tibetan dumplings), yak tongue and Thenthuk (Tibetan noodles), blood sausage, meat sausage, flour sausage and liver sausage are other favorite food stuff of the Tibetans.

Tibetans love to munch on vast joints of beef and mutton while boiling them and mixing with ginger, salt and spices. Breasts and spareribs are popular alternatives.
