How to reach
The only way to enter in Sri Lanka is by air. Colombo is the international gateway for direct flights from Europe, Asia, Australia and the Middle East. There are several flights available between Colombo and Chennai, Trichy, Thiruvananthapuram and Mumbai.

There are no domestic passenger flights in Sri Lanka, thus the land transport is dominant. Train travel is comfortable but slower.

Currency
The Sri Lankan Currency is the Rupee dividend of 100 cents. There are coins in denominations of 05, 10, 25 and 50 cents and 01, 02, 05 and 10 Rupees. Notes come in denominations of 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 Rupees.

Passport and Visa
One of the most important and basic travel document is the passport. You must carry it all the time with you. Ensure that it will remain valid for the entire time you intend to remain overseas.

Dozens of nationalities including Australia, New Zealand, North America and virtually all European receive a tourist visa upon entry for 30 days.

Best time to visit Sri Lanka
Best time to visit Sri Lanka is mainly between the rainy seasons. Period between November and April is the best period and the dry season to visit south west coast and up in the hills. May to September is the best period to visit east coast, as it is dry during this time.

Climate and weather of Sri Lanka
Due to its proximity to equator Sri Lanka has typically tropical climate. There are typically marked seasons. The weather in plains and the coastal areas is hot and humid with an average mean temperature of 27°C. Relative humidity varies from 70% during the day time and 90% during the night time.
